Totally Out There, Mount Rainier National Park
Where can you find wildflowers blooming in alpine meadows, ancient forests over 1,000 years old, and an active volcano topped with 25 glaciers all within sight of 4 million people?
Mount Rainier National Park!
Mount Rainier National Park is a national park with a mountain in the middle. Situated in Washington State, and towering over Seattle and Tacoma, this mountain isn’t just any mountain. It’s a volcano – a real fire breathing, ash shooting, lava flowing volcano. Of course, this mountain, called Mount Rainier, hasn’t erupted in over 150 years – and that was just a small eruption – it is still a real live volcano. It is also a tall mountain. At 14,410 feet above sea level, it is the tallest peak in Washington. It is also a large mountain. Its mountain footprint, the width at its base, is 10 miles wide. It is so large native peoples of the Northwest called it, Tahoma, which means “THE Mountain.”
Whether you visit this mountain from your couch or in your car, you’ll love the wonders of Mount Rainier National Park.
